Take part in the upcoming dedication of Lynné Bowman Cravens’ first public artwork, Beauty in Becoming.

This site-specific artwork in five parts by the Fort Worth artist will be officially dedicated at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. It was installed in early August along Forest Park Boulevard adjacent to the South Holly Water Treatment Plant.

The artwork was commissioned by Fort Worth Public Art, the City’s public art program managed by Arts Fort Worth, with funds from the 2014 Bond.

The installation includes a series of five sculptures, each representing a step in folding an origami scissor-tailed flycatcher bird. The five aluminum sculptures are each 8 feet high and painted in white automotive paint to contrast with the colors of the sky, the levee and nearby Trinity Park.

The dedication will take place at Trinity Park south of Rotary Plaza. Limited parking is available at Rotary Plaza, and additional parking is in Trinity Park. Use the Phyllis J. Tilley Memorial bridge to access the dedication.

Photo: Conceived to be primarily viewed by drivers along Forest Park Boulevard, the sculptures also act as a traffic calming device for commuters as they make their way in and out of downtown along this beautiful river corridor.
