Mentorships will involve public art at two urban gateways

Fort Worth Public Art is seeking two local artists with ties to the Near Southside and/or the Historic Southside to be mentored by public artists commissioned for projects in those neighborhoods.
The mentoring experience will involve work on underpasses at Rosedale and I-35W and South Main and I-30 that are overdue for improvements. The process to transform these underpasses into attractive and inviting gateways could include enhanced lighting day and night, inviting and safe pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, and engaging public art.
The mentorships are intended to assist emerging local artists gain the technical and administrative expertise needed to qualify for future art opportunities.
Applicants must apply as individual artists and:
- Be 18 years or older by Nov. 6, 2022.
- Have ties to Fort Worth’s Historic Southside or Near Southside communities.
- Have a commitment to artistic practice and aspire to create public art.
Selected applicants will receive a $1,000 honorarium and will work closely with an award-winning public artist to learn vital aspects of a public art project.
Deadline for mentorship application submissions is Nov. 6. Mentors will interview finalists in early December, and the mentorship begins next January.
