A new park is coming to the Ash Crescent neighborhood.
The City Council accepted the donation of .674 acre of land at South Riverside Drive and East Maddox Avenue to be dedicated as Smiley Park. The land was donated by Dalton’s Best Maid Products Inc.
An Active Zone will be the at the heart of the park, providing activities for all ages. A playground will feature crawling mounds, objects for climbing and swinging, along with play equipment for toddlers. There will be an open-air gym and a mist pool with water jets activated by the movement of gym equipment.
The new park will be in the Ash Crescent neighborhood, where the City of Fort Worth has concentrated resources as part of its ongoing Neighborhood Improvement Strategy.
Ash Crescent was selected as the second target area under the six-year-old strategy. As part of this program, funds set aside by City Council are used to improve neighborhood vitality and give residents paths to self-sufficiency.
Funding for design and construction totals $1.09 million.
