The Fort Worth City Council work session was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at City Hall.

Informal reports

  • August sales tax update.
  • Drug testing policy and CBD oil advisory.
  • Forest Park Rides Inc. miniature trains.

  • Municipal regulation of an open container or public consumption of alcohol in the West Seventh Street area.

Presentations

  • Veronica Villegas from the Diversity & Inclusion Department provided an update on upcoming events observing Native American Heritage Month in November.
  • William Rumuly, director of the Municipal Courts Department, and Chief Judge Danny Rodgers invited councilmembers and the public to participate in Municipal Court Week, Nov. 7-11. A number of public engagement opportunities are scheduled.
  • Update on Near Southside TIF. Near Southside Inc. proposed an extension of the district and a revenue-sharing plan for incremental funds. This would allow additional time to complete several key projects on the drawing board.
  • Review Council calendar for 2023. A Nov. 8 resolution will set the meeting calendar for 2023.
  • Final report on Bitcoin mining pilot program. A six-month project resulted in $1,019 in net proceeds – but more important were the 752 million media impressions that branded Fort Worth as a forward-looking city for innovation and technology.
  • 2023 housing tax credit policy. Staff presented recommendations for the low-income housing tax credits program for 2023, which will include a streamlined process and timeline for developers. Council is expected to take action on Nov. 8.
  • Permanent supportive housing. The Council will vote on Nov. 8 to approve two permanent supportive housing projects that would help end chronic homelessness in Fort Worth.
  • Proposed community police oversight and accountability board. Councilmembers discussed the makeup of the proposed board and how it might conduct its work.
