Municipal Court reaches out to the homeless population

As part of the Directions Home program to end chronic homelessness, the Fort Worth Municipal Court Homeless Court program seeks to help remove barriers to people who have outstanding cases through a diversionary community court program.

Judges, court staff and prosecutors meet with qualifying members of the community and their caseworkers onsite at the True Worth Place Day Shelter and Resource Center once a month.

In honor of this partnership, the Court has two activities planned during the holiday season:

• Donations benefiting the Presbyterian Night Shelter. The Court is accepting donations of personal-care items at the Marshall Public Safety and Courts Building, 1000 Throckmorton St., until Dec. 15. Donations can be delivered during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or to the Presbyterian Night Shelter, 2400 Cypress St. Items requested: shampoo and conditioner, soap, deodorant, shaving supplies, gloves and caps, underwear for men and women (all sizes).
• Holiday photos. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Courts Building, 1000 Throckmorton St. With a donation of personal-care items, have your photo taken with Santa Claus and Bumble the Abominable Snowman from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” The event is sponsored by Fort Worth Municipal Court and the Fort Worth Marshal’s Association.

“This is another great idea by Fort Worth Municipal Court staff to show how much they want to help and serve this community. I am so thankful to work alongside this staff every day and for their hearts for this community,” said Court Director William F. Rumuly.
