Council workshop

The City Council met in a special called workshop at 2 p.m.

• Informal reports: Budget and tax notice requirements; submission of 2022 no-new-revenue and voter-approval tax rates; submission of 2022 certified appraisal roll and certified collection rate.
• Budget presentation: Fort Worth’s homeowners could see the City’s property tax rate drop 2 cents if the City Council approves a new rate as part of the fiscal 2023 budget process. City Manager David Cooke proposed the decrease when he put before councilmembers a $915.3 million General Fund budget. The City’s overall budget will top $2.3 billion. Water rates, garbage collection fees and stormwater fees are not going up.
• Communications & Public Engagement presentation; Reyne Telles presented an overview of plans to educate and engage the public in the budget process. Fort Worth residents have many opportunities to speak on the proposed fiscal 2023 budget. A series of community engagement meetings will be held at geographically dispersed locations across Fort Worth. View a list of meetings.

City Council meeting

The City Council met at 6 p.m.

• Members approved an artwork commission contract with Steven Parker for up to $137,299 for artwork at North Park, 900 N. Beach St.
• The Council approved an agreement with Camp Bowie District Inc. to manage the City’s vertical street banner program in Public Improvement District No. 19.
• Members approved David Medrano as city auditor; Leonard Firestone and Alan Blaylock as alternate members and official voting representatives to the Regional Transportation Council; and members of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board and Historical and Cultural Landmarks Commission.
• The Council agreed to rezone a 300-plus-acre tract east of I-35W and Basswood Boulevard for multiple purposes, including a proposed soccer complex. The move had previously been recommended by the Zoning Commission.
• The Oct. 4 public comment meeting was canceled, allowing councilmembers to attend National Night Out events.
