On Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott and Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley signed separate disaster declarations following torrential rainfall and flooding on Monday.
DFW Airport received 9.19 inches of rain in a 24-hour period, the second highest official 24-hour precipitation total recorded in North Texas.
Abbott held a press conference in Dallas on Tuesday, where he signed a disaster declaration for 23 counties impacted by flooding, including Tarrant County.
The Fort Worth City Council will meet at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in Room 2020 at City Hall, 200 Texas St., to consider adopting a resolution to continue an executive order concerning severe weather. The resolution would continue an order for another month to allow time for damage assessment and cleanup.
Declaring a local disaster opens the path for possible financial assistance from state and federal sources.
The Council will conduct a budget workshop immediately after the 9:45 a.m. meeting.
Residents who have sustained property damage should notify state emergency management officials.
