Groundbreaking for new Council Chamber set for Thursday

Everyone is invited to celebrate the groundbreaking on Fort Worth’s new City Council Chamber addition at Future City Hall, 100 Energy Way, at 9 a.m. Sept. 15.

Site changes at the former Pier 1 headquarters building will include a new City Council Chamber facility, which will be home to future Council meetings and a number of boards and commissions.

Keynote speakers at Thursday’s event include Mayor Mattie Parker, City Manager David Cooke and Tanyan Farley from Athenian Group. Complimentary coffee and water will be provided.

Free parking is available onsite. See the map below. Parking gates open at 8:30 a.m., and Fort Worth Police Department officers will direct traffic. Once parked, walk toward the building’s terrace, where you will see staff and signage leading to the welcome area.

About the project

As part of a goal to transform the way city services are delivered in Fort Worth, the City purchased the former Pier 1 building, with the goal of bringing 22 departments from 14 buildings into the site. The site will include a new one-stop shop for resident-facing services, including development and permitting activities, water customer service and more.

The existing building is undergoing a number of changes to support a welcoming and functional space for municipal government.

The greenspace and site itself are undergoing a transformation to create a “front lawn” of City Hall. This area will play host to citywide events, walking trails and a number of other functions.

Project completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.
