The year 1962 provided some enduring icons, from the release of the first James Bond film to Goldfish Crackers landing on grocery shelves. For the Wedgwood neighborhood, it was the year its branch library opened.
Library staff, city officials and community members will gather on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Wedgwood Branch Library, 3816 Kimberly Lane, to celebrate the library’s birthday, almost 60 years to the day it opened on Oct. 7, 1962.
There will be party games, a slideshow of memories and a special birthday story time. All are welcome to share their memories of the library’s past and present throughout the day. Activities are scheduled 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Wedgwood facility is the Fort Worth Public Library’s oldest building and originally opened as the Southwest Branch.
