Fun facts & History

On September 16, 1975, the City Council endorsed the concept of preserving 4.5 miles of the Clear Fork of the Trinity River between Benbrook Lake and Southwest Boulevard. A more specific plan was endorsed on October 18, 1976. Also in 1976, the City Plan Commission approved a preliminary plat for the Meadows West Addition. The Meadows West Corporation included as part of the plat the use of 17.2 acres (out of the 154.7-acre development) to be used as a city park. The final plant denoted that Blocks 16 and 17 were reserved for park purposes. However, the developer granted a utility easement to Texas Electric Service Company (TESCO) without the approval of the city and a feeder line was constructed along the easement in June 1978. The park could not be officially designated as a city park until this situation was rectified in 1984. As of 2024, the park features trails, a shelter, picnic tables, benches, an observation deck, electrical boxes, and a drinking fountain.
