Construction started March 3, 2025 to improve water service reliability by replacing old, large cast iron water mains and one sewer main. The replacements on the westside of downtown are in Lancaster Avenue, Summit Avenue, Henderson Street, West 10th Street, West 5th Street, West 2nd Street, Collier Street, West 13th Street and Florence Street.
The construction will occur in 12 phases. The streets in each phase are listed in the Project News section below.
- Motorists will experience significant traffic impacts at various stages of construction.

The water utility and its contractor will work with businesses to ensure at least one point of access is always available.

Some businesses will be on a temporary water line during construction. Water meters are removed at this time and billing is based on historical usage data.

- Construction is estimated to last two years, including a seven-week pause during the World Cup in 2026. Weather or unforeseen issues, such as discovering a conflict with another buried utility, could delay project completion.
- Construction will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Contractor can request to work on a weekend, if the request is made by the previous Thursday.
This project is in Fort Worth Council District 9. Construction will impact the Fort Worth Downtown Neighborhood Alliance. Landmarks include Trinity Terrace, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, new City Hall, apartments and businesses.
