The City of Fort Worth built Lake Worth in 1914 as a destination for recreation and entertainment. By the end of the first summer season, nearly 75,000 people — equal to the total population of the city at the time — had visited the newest resort in the country, Fort Worth historian Quentin McGown wrote.
The first two segments of the North Tarrant Express will be completed in early October, nearly nine months ahead of schedule.
The Fort Worth Police Department invites all residents to participate in the celebration. Residents are asked to turn on their outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with their neighbors, police officers and other city personnel.
